St Andrews BC | #MeetTheTeams | Holland Easter Open 2026

Next up in our #MeetTheTeams series, we caught up with Calvin McKechnie as St Andrew’s BC 2011 Whites set off on their journey to the Holland Easter Open this weekend.

To get things started, we asked Calvin about the mood in the camp as the players prepare to travel.

“The mood amongst the players is excellent at the moment. There’s a real sense of excitement within the group about travelling to Holland and taking part in such a well-respected tournament.

The players have worked hard in training and they’re looking forward to testing themselves against teams from different countries and experiencing a different style of football. It’s a great opportunity for them both on and off the pitch, and you can definitely feel the buzz and anticipation within the squad.”

Calvin also gave us an insight into how the team have been preparing for the challenge ahead.

“We’ve prepared well as a group. We train twice a week and always focus on fitness and playing a possession-based style of football.

I’m a big believer that the game should be played on the deck, so we encourage the players to be comfortable on the ball, move it quickly, and work together to control games.

The players have really bought into that approach, so this tournament is a great chance to put it into practice against different opposition.”

We then asked what the team will bring to the Netherlands.

“I think we’ll bring a very positive attitude and strong team spirit. We try to play football the right way, focusing on possession, and the players have worked hard to develop that style.

Just as importantly, we want to represent the club well through behaviour, effort and sportsmanship. It’s a great opportunity to compete, learn and enjoy the experience.”

The tournament promises to be a great test for the squad—one they’re embracing fully.

“It will be hugely beneficial for the players. Facing teams from other countries brings new challenges and different styles of football. That experience is so valuable because it pushes them to adapt, think quicker and raise their levels.

It also builds confidence, resilience and team spirit. Opportunities like this create memories that will stay with them for a long time.”

As the team head out to Holland, Calvin had one final message for his players:

“Enjoy the experience and take in everything the tournament has to offer.

Work hard for each other, play with confidence and stick to the way we play. If you do that and represent the club well, it will be a successful trip for everyone involved.”

The team captain also shared their excitement as they travel today:

“It’s a really exciting opportunity for us to represent the club at a tournament like this. We’ve all been looking forward to it and can’t wait to play against teams from different countries. We’ll give it our best and hopefully make the club proud.”
