The Trans World Soccer media team caught up with Aveley FC U16 head coach, Grant and players, George, Kian, Flint and Freddie ahead of the club’s participation in next month’s Holland Easter Open.
After an impressive league season so far as the team are on the verge of gaining the league title, the side were instantly drawn to the tournament. Head coach Grant saw the event as the perfect fit for the Aveley lads to test themselves against European opposition and believed it would be a great overall experience for the squad to build character for their remaining league games.
Flint commented on the team’s main focus in training ahead of the tournament:
“We’ve focused on team bonding and working hard in training, we’re ready for it.”
Grant went on to tell us how the tour will be the last trip for the lads as a group as they move up in age group after this year and he hopes the experience is one that allows his players to grow as individuals. Grant commented:
“For me as a manager, the experience will show me a lot about each of the boys’ characteristics and how well they work together in different circumstances. It’s going to be about how we can counter and adapt to different styles of play from teams from different countries.”
With an external focus on winning, Grant believes that if the lads enjoy themselves and learn from the experience, the trip will have been a great success that they can use to build on as they return to league action after the tournament.
In a final comment going into the tournament, Kian spoke about how the team are looking to approach the competition.
“We want to go game by game, if we lose a game we need to pick ourselves up and see if we can win the next one, then hopefully the trophy!”
We would like to wish Aveley FC U16 all the best with their remaining league games and preparation for their trip of a lifetime!
