Newcastle International Summer Cup 2025: Tournament Round-Up

The Newcastle International Summer Cup returned to Cochrane Park last weekend, as 62 grassroots clubs from across England, Scotland, Ireland, and the USA descended on the North-East for two days of exciting pre-season football action.

Marking its fifth edition, this year’s tournament was the biggest to date – hosted at Newcastle University’s state-of-the-art Cochrane Park facilities, with more teams, more matches, and more memories made than ever before.

One of the standout additions in 2025 was the introduction of the U12 Girls category – with debut teams from across the UK taking part, including Manulla Girls, who made the journey from Ireland and Newcastle East End Girls, who were eventually crowned champions of the first-ever U12 Girls Cup Final, following a narrow 1-0 win over Newcastle City Juniors Girls.

On the boys’ side, the action didn’t disappoint – with competitive fixtures, dramatic finals, and silverware on the line across all age groups.

In the U10 category, local side, Wallsend BC Yellows, produced a fantastic weekend of football to lift the trophy – showcasing their quality from start to finish and defeating New Durham FC 4-0 in the Cup Final.

Walker Central returned after lifting the U10 trophy last year and put on another strong showing – this time going all the way in the U11 Cup Final, where they overcame Scottish side, Dyce Boys Club, 4-1 to claim the title.

Newcastle City Juniors impressed once again – adding the U12 trophy to their growing list of honours with a 2-0 win over Cramlington Juniors in the final.

In the U13 Cup Final, it was Foundation of Light who came out on top after a competitive encounter against Wideopen Warriors, edging the game 3-2 thanks to their fast-paced, attacking style of play.

Newcastle East End continued their winning form from 2024 in the U14 category, putting in a commanding performance in the final to beat Scottish side, On The Ball Academy, 3-0 and lift another Newcastle International Summer Cup trophy.

And rounding off the weekend, Rutherford AFC delivered a commanding performance with a 2-1 win over Benfield Azzurri in the U15 final to claim the title – once again showing their class as one of the tournament’s most consistent sides.

A huge well done to all teams who took part across the weekend – from the first kick-off on Saturday to the final whistle on Sunday, the standard was exceptional.

Off the pitch, the Unite Entertainment Zone made its debut beside Pitch 4, bringing even more energy to the weekend, thanks to our official partners Unite Teamwear. From football challenges in the Pitch Parade Fun Zone, to Eds Memorabilia, face painting and ice cream – there was something for everyone.

Tegan Reynolds, co-organiser of the Newcastle International Summer Cup, commented:

“We’re incredibly proud to have welcomed 62 teams from across England, Scotland, Ireland and the USA for our biggest edition yet.

One of the most special moments this year was getting the U12 Girls category off the ground – giving even more grassroots players the opportunity to perform on a big stage and create unforgettable memories.

It was also great to have Unite involved this year, helping us add something extra off the pitch and bringing even more energy to the weekend.

We wish everyone a successful season ahead and hope to welcome everyone back for an even bigger and better tournament in 2026.”
