The Trans World Soccer media team caught up with Linwood Rangers head coach, Phil and players, Patrick, Josh and Kian ahead of the club’s participation in this year’s Holland Easter Open.
Going into their first tournament abroad, Phil and his players have been training hard and raising funds over the past 12 months as they look to impress at this year’s Holland Easter Open.
Phil spoke about the opportunity for the Linwood lads and believed it would be a great overall experience for the squad to test themselves against unknown opposition at different venues in Holland.
Patrick commented on the team’s excitement ahead of the tournament:
“We’re looking forward to playing teams from other countries the most. It’ll be a different challenge to our league games because it’s shorter games and a lot more games so it’ll be tough but we’re excited.”
Phil went on to tell us how the tour will be beneficial for the lads as a group as they move up in age group after this year and he hopes the experience is one that provides great developmental opportunities for the squad as they look ahead to next season. Phil commented:
“It’ll be good for development opportunities as we go up to U18s next season as the boys will need to adapt to the different types of football we’re playing and the different styles. We’ve done a lot of work on fitness as the games will be short and fast so we’ll be able to adapt”
We then went on to speak about what the boys are looking to bring to the tournament. Kian commented:
“We’ll look to bring aggression, we will look to really dig in and bring home a trophy.”
In a final comment going into the tournament, Josh spoke about how the team are looking forward to the competition.
“We’re nervous but we are really excited for the tournament. It’s been a long wait but we’ve prepared well and we’re ready for it.”
We would like to wish Linwood Rangers U17 all the best at this year’s Holland Easter Open.
